About Nathan Friend:
Nathan Friend manages RadioActive, the youth radio program at KUOW. He started at KUOW in 2004, running the original workshop for young people called Weekday High. Nathan returned to the station every summer to run the youth program until landing a permanent position in 2011. He's excited to continue helping empower young people through radio storytelling.
Nathan graduated from Williams College in 2007 where he studied history and hosted a weekly radio talk show. He completed NPR's Next Generation Radio Boot Camp in St. Louis during his senior year. After graduation, Nathan spent a year teaching English in Naples, Italy. He then taught Radio Broadcasting at Mercer Island High School for three years while earning his Washington state teaching certificate in Career and Technical Education.
Nathan is proud to be born and raised in Seattle, and is committed to deepening his roots in this beautiful and vibrant region.
