Interview with Tavis Smiley


Tavis Smiley hosts programs on PBS and public radio along with being a well-known author and African-American leader. But he wasn't born on third base. Smiley was raised in a trailer with a family of thirteen in an all-white community in Indiana. KUOW's Steve Scher talks with Tavis Smiley about his family, his name, his work, and his new book, What I Know For Sure: My Story of Growing Up in America.

Tavis Smiley hosts a show on PBS and The Tavis Smiley Show on public radio. It can be heard on KUOW radio Sunday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. He's also the author of several books including Keeping the Faith and his latest What I know For Sure: My Story of Growing up in America.
