The Long Tail / U-Cut Christmas Trees

John Moe

The future of commerce and of culture itself might not lie in the best selling book, the hottest song, or the blockbuster movie, but rather in the numerous other titles that exist on what has been called "The Long Tail". Chris Anderson, the editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine, explains the theory of The Long Tail in his new book of the same name. With the development of the internet as a distributor of products and ideas, consumers are demanding more a much broader selection in their lives and companies are well positioned to provide it. Anderson joins us to explain what this means to the future of the marketplace and the world. Plus, how can a Christmas tree lot offer trees you can cut yourself and still be located in the same place year after year. We visit some u-cut lots and figure out how that business operates.

Chris Anderson is the editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine.
Pablo Sifuentes of the Redwood Farm.
Jan Peterson of the Christmas Creek Tree Farm.
