Author Michael Pollan says the key to health is simple: "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly Plants." What snacks are in your desk drawer? Cereal bars, low–fat crackers, 100 calorie cookie packs? Are these products real food — or just food–like substances? We live in a country of obesity; and suffer all the diseases that come with it. Are nutritionists and scientific health studies helping us reverse these trends? Today, we take a look at real food, food science, and the problems with nutritionism with Pollan.

Michael Pollan is the author of four previous books, including The Omnivore's Dilemma and The Botany of Desire, both New York Times bestsellers. He is Knight Professor of Journalism at Berkeley and a long time contributor to the New York Times Magazine. His newest book is In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto.
