Advocating for Pierce County Kids, Part Two

Dominic Black

In Pierce County, nearly 1,400 children are in the child welfare system at any given time. Each of those children is assigned a CASA volunteer to argue for their needs in court. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate, and they work to get kids out of foster care and back into permanent homes.

In part one of this story, we heard from the volunteers who advocate for the children in the dependency system. In part two, Kim Nyhous brings us the story of Paula Gima, a mother who lost her kids to foster care and fought to reunite her family.
