Nonprofits (including KUOW) are stepping up the requests for contributions for the holiday season. But most nonprofits are having a tough time — 86 percent say a bad economy is effecting the services they can provide, according to a report by Charity Navigator for 2009. We talk to Charity Navigator, the nation's largest charity evaluator. And we want to hear from you: What's your policy on charitable giving? How do you check out a charity to make sure they're doing a good job? Charities mentioned during the program include Ayni Educational Institute, Central Asia Institute, and Taproot Theatre Company.
