Lyanda Lynn Haupt: Discovering The Stories In Nature

Jeremy Richards
03/20/2010

One of the most common trees you'll see around the Pacific Northwest is the Douglas Fir. It's named after David Douglas, who first introduced the tree into cultivation in the US. That's the kind of dry fact that you'd get from a basic trailside reference. But local author Lyanda Lynn Haupt suggests a different kind of reference guide — one that reveals the stories in Northwest nature. Lyanda tells KUOW's Jeremy Richards about "Cascade–Olympic Natural History" by Daniel Mathews.

Segment music: "Goodbye Versailles" by Hey Marseilles.
