Tweeting The Manhunt
In April of 2010 The Seattle Times won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the Maurice Clemmons manhunt, following the search for the man suspected of killing four Lakewood police officers in November of 2009. In that news coverage the Times gained a lot of attention for posting updates in the unfolding story on Twitter. This caught the attention of local playwright Paul Mullin. He had helped create a play about the changing news industry after the Seattle P–I shifted to an online–only paper, so he wondered how Twitter further influenced news. Now Paul shares how he and his colleagues discovered a surprising drama through these online posts, and how the Twitter conversations started to affect the real life events. Paul Mullin talks with KUOW's Jeremy Richards.
"The New New News" opens Friday, February 18, 2011, at the Olympic Theatre at SSCC, February 24 at The Erickson Theatre, and March 2 at Stage One Theatre at NSCC.
