Capitalizing On Our Irrationality: Dan Ariely

07/07/2011 at 8:00 p.m.

Human beings are not rational — and that's not necessarily a bad thing, according to behavioral economist Dan Ariely. Defying logic and going against intuition can actually result in a happier, more engaged life. Drawing on research and personal experience, Ariely provides surprising insights into the complexities of human behavior.

Ariely spoke at Town Hall in Seattle on June 8, 2010, about his book "The Upside of Irrationality: The Unexpected Ways We Defy Logic at Work and at Home."

Ariely is a professor of psychology and behavioral economics at Duke University. He is the author of "Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape Our Decisions." His research has been published in leading psychology, economics and business journals, and has been featured occasionally in the popular press.
