If you've ever bought biofuels, compact fluorescent light bulbs or recycled shopping bags, economist Todd Myers says you may have fallen prey to an eco–fad. Myers argues that a lot of so–called green products do more to bolster your image than minimize your carbon footprint. He says consumers, businesses and governments all fall for eco–fads and it's hurting the environment.

Todd Myers is the environmental director of Washington Policy Center in Seattle, a public policy think tank that advocates free market solutions. He formerly served on the executive team at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
