Is Retromania Replacing Originality?

Pop culture seems more focused on reliving the past than on innovation: band reunion tours, retro clothing, remakes, sequels, and even prequels of old movies. Music writer Simon Reynolds says people in past centuries shared our obsession with the old school. Is today's fascination with yesterday's styles doing away with originality? Simon Reynolds joins us to talk about his book, "Retromania."

Simon Reynolds is the author of "Retromania: Pop Culture's Addiction To Its Own Past." He's also written the books "Rip It Up," "Start Again: Postpunk 1978–1984" and "Totally Wired: Postpunk Interviews And Overviews." He's written for The New York Times, The Village Voice, Spin and Slate.
