Gienna Smith Njie: Forgiveness As A Selfish Act
Jeannie Yandel
11/19/2011
When Gienna Smith Njie was 16, her stepfather Bob killed her mom Denise during a fight. The murder ripped Gienna's family apart, and pushed Gienna into a decades–long spiral of depression and anger. Then a couple of years ago, Gienna found herself in a room with Bob for the first time since the murder, and what happened in that room changed her life in a way she never could have predicted. Gienna tells KUOW's Jeannie Yandel about her life before and after the murder, and how she discovered that forgiveness can be totally selfish — in the best possible way.
