We talked to many green thinkers in 2011. Here are three people who offer inspiration from different parts of the natural world. Paul Bannick looks skyward to take stunning photographs of owls and woodpeckers. Robert Glennon follows water to its sources. Phillip Connors lives with fire as a lookout in the forest.

Paul Bannick is a naturalist, outdoor educator and award–winning photographer. His work has appeared in numerous books and magazines. "The Owl And The Woodpecker" is his collection of photographs of these birds.

Robert Glennon is the Morris K. Udall professor of law and public policy at Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. He's the author of many books, including "Water Follies: Groundwater Pumping And The Fate Of America's Fresh Waters." His most recent book is "Unquenchable: America's Water Crisis And What To Do About It."

Philip Connors has worked as a baker, a bartender, a house painter, a janitor and an editor at The Wall Street Journal. His essays have appeared in n+1, Harper's, The Paris Review and the Best American Non–Required Reading anthology. His new book is "Fire Season: Field Notes From A Wilderness Lookout."
