Lyn Coffin On Translating Poet Jiri Orten From Czech

Elizabeth Austen

In a labor of love lasting nearly 40 years, Lyn Coffin has been translating the poems of a little–known Czech Jew named Jiri Orten. Hedied in Nazi–occupied Prague in 1941 at the age of 22. She talks with KUOW's Elizabeth Austen about Orten's poem "A Small Elegy," and why she thinks he is one of the most significant poets of the 20th century.
