How To Solve Traffic Congestion?

Seattle has the 12th worst traffic congestion in the United States and the average commuter spends 44 hours per year stuck in traffic at an annual cost of nearly $1,000 per car. Our guest today believes congestion also shrinks your "opportunity circle" of jobs, entertainment, housing and even dating. But he says it's possible to build your way out of the problem. We'll also hear from guests with differing perspectives.


Robert Poole is the director of transportation at the Reason Foundation, a libertarian think tank that has advised numerous state and local governments on transportation issues.

Mark Hallenbeck directs the Washington State Transportation Center at the University of Washington.
