A Public Safety "Emergency" In Seattle? Violent crime in Seattle is at its lowest point in more than 50 years, but Mayor Mike McGinn is speaking up with concerns for public safety. McGinn called a recent spike in gun violence an "emergency" in this week's State of the City speech. Seattle Deputy Police Chief Nick Metz says there's been a "huge increase" in shootings and he doesn't know why. How safe do you feel in your neighborhood?

Adam Frank On Time: Stars age, just like people. But what do the theories about cosmic beginnings and endings mean to us here on earth? Everything, says Adam Frank. Frank is professor of astrophysics at the University of Rochester and co–founder of NPR's "13:7 Cosmos And Culture" blog. He joins us to bat around mind–bending questions like, what if time has no beginning? Are there parallel universes? And is "time" itself just a word, an illusion?

Tenor Bill Burden In "Orpheus and Eurydice:" Seattle Opera's new production of "Orpheus and Eurydice" opens February 25. Singing the lead is tenor William Burden, a Seattle Opera regular. Burden has performed a lot of operatic roles in his career, but he's happiest developing new work. So how does that jive with singing an 18th century chestnut? Marcie Sillman talks with Burden about what he likes about opera.
