Susan Enfield Will Be Offered Highline School District Superintendent Position

Interim Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Susan Enfield announced Tuesday morning she'll become the new superintendent of Highline School District, pending a formal job offer.

Enfield spoke at a news conference at Highline district headquarters. The district announced Monday that Enfield is its top choice for superintendent.

Enfield was in the running for the superintendent position in at least one other district, Bellevue, but she says she found Highline to be the best fit.

Susan Enfield: "I chose Highline because I was so impressed with the people – the adults and the students alike. The students were wonderful. But I really felt that this was a staff and a community that truly, truly wants to come together on behalf of its students, and I was just compelled to be a part of that. So I'm happy to be here."

Enfield took her current job after the Seattle School Board fired Superintendent Maria Goodloe–Johnson last March. Enfield says she plans to start at Highline July 1, the day after her contract in Seattle expires. She again cited her reasons for leaving the Seattle district only as personal and professional. Enfield said Seattle deserves a phenomenal leader and that she'll do what she can to ensure a smooth transition.

The Highline School Board plans to vote on a formal job offer for Enfield at its next meeting.
