Protecting Public Health And The Anti-Vaccine Movement

The Washington State Department of Health (DoH) has declared pertussis, also known as whooping cough, to be epidemic in our state. What effect does the anti–vaccine movement have on the rate of pertussis and other deasesis spreading here in Washington and nationwide?


Dr. Gary Goldbaum is the health officer and director of the Snohomish Health District and associate professor of epidemiology and adjunct associate professor of health services at the University of Washington.

Dr. Paul Offit is the chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and the director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the author of "Deadly Choices."
