April 30 is International Jazz Day. Why are some people so passionate about jazz? We'll find out.


Paul DeBarros is the Seattle Times jazz critic and author of "Jackson Street after Hours: The Roots of Jazz in Seattle."

Jim Wilke is the host of the national late—night radio show "Jazz After Hours." He lives here in the Northwest.

Thomas Marriott is a professional jazz trumpet player based in Seattle. His latest release is called "Human Spirit."

Kevin Kniestedt is the host of "Jazz on the Grooveyard" on KPLU.

John Bishop is the founder of Origin Records.

John Gilbreath is the executive director of Earshot Jazz, the nonprofit jazz organization that produces Seattle's Earshot Jazz festival.
