Seattle Gunman Kills 5, Then Self: What Can We Do About Spike In Gun Violence?

A gunman kills four people at a popular coffee shop and bar in North Seattle, a fifth person in the parking lot outside Seattle's Town Hall and then himself on a West Seattle street. What do we know about the victims or the shooter? And is there anything that can be done to prevent it from happening again?

James Allen Fox is a professor of criminology, law, and public policy at Northeastern University in Boston who also writes the Crime and Punishment blog for the Boston Globe. Professor Fox headed a 2006 Seattle Police panel that looked at the Capitol Hill shooting in Seattle, when a 28–year–old man killed six and wounded two others before shooting himself.
