Cafe Racer Memorial

Patricia Murphy

A memorial has emerged where four people were killed Wednesday in Seattle's University District. One victim remains hospitalized.

The alleged shooter died last night of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Police say the gunman also killed a woman on First Hill. KUOW's Patricia Murphy reports.

Flowers, tributes and candles lined the sidewalk in front of Cafe Racer. It's an eclectic coffee shop and bar. Most of the victims were well known there.

One man laid flowers, crossed himself and prayed. Others stood quietly.

Joe McManus says he knew victims Joe Albanese and Andrew Keriakedes well. He says they were both regulars at the cafe.

McManus: "I came here. Then I'm going over to the house where they lived. I just needed to pay homage to them and um, I hadn't been able to cry. I'm certainly able to cry now. They were both great guys. Fun loving, sweet, kind, you know they wouldn't hurt a flea, and to have this happen is just so horrible."

Both men played in the band God's Favorite Beefcake. Both men were also longtime members of a vaudeville–burlesque group called Circus Contraption.

Yesterday's shootings bring the number of homicides in Seattle this year to 21. That's the same number as in all of last year.
