You Don't Get To Heaven Just Because You're Cute: The earliest philosophers spent many hours wondering about whether animals have a soul (they had a lot of time on their hands). Writer and farmer Jon Katz returned to those thinkers in the course of writing his own book, "Soul of a Dog: Reflections on the Spirits of the Animals of Bedlam Farm." He spoke with Steve Scher in 2009 and remembered a Presbyterian minister's words to Katz's donkey: Just because you're cute, doesn't mean you get to heaven.

Recommended Eating: Food writer Sara Dickerman joins us with a restaurant recommendation. Prefer to cook for yourself? She also has a pick for a great cookbook!
