Previewing Mexico's Presidential Election

Steve Scher

Mexico Votes For President: Mexico elects a president on July 1. Polls say Enrique Pena Nieto of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) continues to be the frontrunner, but some voters are worried about a close election. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) lost by less than one percentage point in 2006. Feeling he was the "legitimate president," he ensnarled Mexico City with major protests. Could that happen again? And how does ongoing drug violence affect the vote?

David Grann On Mysteries: New Yorker staff writer David Grann has spent his career unraveling real–life mysteries. The out–of–shape journalist with a degenerative eye condition describes himself as "the least likely explorer in the history of man." Yet Grann discovered how the Aryan Brotherhood infiltrated the US prison system. He uncovered the story of why Texas executed a man who was almost certainly innocent. He followed a biologist in search of baby giant squid. And he went to the Amazon to find out what happened to Percy Fawcett, an explorer who disappeared while searching for the lost City of Z. David Grann talks about his craft and the curiosity, research and passion tied up in a good mystery.

On the Job — Touring Actor: Joseph Morales played the lead character, Usnavi, for the touring version of the Broadway show "In the Heights." What is it like to live life as a Broadway actor? What happens to a cast when they live on the road together? Katy Sewall takes you on a peek behind the scenes.

The Weather And Hike Of The Week: Michael Fagin suggests a hike that matches the week's weather forecast.
