Poet Christopher Howell And 'Bon Voyage'

Elizabeth Austen

In his poem "Bon Voyage," Christopher Howell captures the devotion of a small boy for his mother, and conveys its lasting reverberations. The poem is part of his most recent poetry collection, "Gaze," published by Milkweed Editions earlier this year.

Howell is the author of nine previous collections of poetry, including "Dreamless and Possible: Poems New and Selected" (University of Washington Press, 2010). He has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts, Oregon Arts Commission and Artists Trust. He is on the faculty of Eastern Washington University, and serves as the director and senior editor for Willow Springs Editions. His reading was recorded in the KUOW Studios on March 9, 2012.
