At 2:00pm - Hairspray
Hairspray just opened to rave reviews on Broadway after a tryout run in Seattle at the 5th Avenue Theatre. The musical is based on a 1988 film by the campy and provocative director John Waters. Set in the early 1960's Hairspray tells the story of Tracy Turnblat a teenage outcast who becomes an instant celebrity after winning a TV dance contest. Hairspray's composer and lyricist join us to talk about the transformation of Hairspray for the stage, and about Seattle's role as a pre-Broadway tryout city. We hear selections performed live in our studios...and some excerpts from the newly released cast recording.
