Boeing Versus Airbus

Today Boeing is rolling out its newest jetliner, an extended range 777. But behind the hoopla, there is concern. Many analysts expect Airbus to deliver more jets than Boeing this year. Thatís quite a turnaround.

Just three years ago Boeing delivered more than twice as many jets as its arch rival. Now Airbus is working on a superjumbo jet to challenge Boeingís 747 while some question whether Boeing will even build its proposed new plane, the high speed Sonic Cruiser. In this tough climate for the airline industry Boeing has laid off 30,000 workers but Airbus has let go only a few hundred employees. And the European company is poised for a move on Boeing lucrative defense contracts.

Why is it happening? Is the turnaround temporary? Is Boeing poised for a resurgence or are we seeing the beginning of a Boeing decline. Today on The Conversation, Boeing versus Airbus. Are you a Boeing worker with an idea on how to make your company more competitive? What kind of jetliner would you like to fly in?
