Boeing 7E7 in Everett

Last May, the Seattle P-I published an analysis under the headline "State has slim chance to land 7E7". Today the P-I story was headlined "Everett Lands 7E7". The official announcement isn’t until 2:00 pm today.

What happened? What will it mean for the state? What will it mean to you? Seattle P.I. aerospace reporter James Wallace tells us why he’s reporting that Boeing will build their new jetliner here. Historian T.M. Sell provides perspective on Washington’s long relationship with the aircraft builder. Is it worth the 3.2 billion dollars in tax incentives Governor Locke and the legislature delivered to Boeing to build the 7E7 here? Is the 7E7 a bet-the-company gamble in Boeing’s competition with Airbus? Or is there room for both Boeing’s new plane and the Airbus super jumbo jet in the commercial airline market? Will the 7E7 news mark an end to the recent string of bad Boeing news of defense contracts on hold and high level resignations?
