Christmas Bird Count

Steve Scher

Time to count the birds, while they remain. The Christmas Bird Count is underway in our area. A recent study reports that conservation biologists estimate that up to 10 percent of all bird species probably will be extinct in one hundred years, killed off by habitat loss, hunting and climate change. The Audubon Society's Bird Count provides a baseline to track the probable decline. Is there anything that can be done locally to save the species?
